Help Regenerate Our Village Hall

The Parish Council has recently been awarded a National Lottery grant of £20,000 towards installing a disabled toilet and refurbishing the kitchen in the Village Hall. There is a very positive momentum to get this work started this year.

Thank you to everyone who completed our survey – With a 26% return rate, the results of this survey have helped us understand what you want and will demonstrate to grant assessors that our village hall is worth saving and investing in. We will keep you up todate with our progress.

You can help us, by continuing to join in our village events and activities, these are organised by Shadoxhurst Community Forum Volunteers who are working hard to raise funds to put towards the refurbishment of our hall, their next events are 60’ to 80’s Live Music Night in May & The Shadoxhurst Midsummer Festival in June.

If you have any time and would like to join our ‘Hall Working Group’ or offer your support by sharing your skills in some other way please do contact us.

Our Village Hall plans in a bit more detail:

Built in the 1950’s by volunteers from the community, our hall provides a great space for people to get together. As custodians for more than 70 years, the community has cared for this building, they have worked hard to maintain it, extend it and adapt it to fit their needs. This, together with  offering a range of clubs, activities and events has built a thriving community open to all, which still exists today.

The hall is running at a deficit. Rentals have fallen due to the condition of the building and energy costs have increased significantly due to poor insulation.

To safeguard the building, it is essential to undertake an extensive refurbishment. The project aim is to modernise our building and introduce measures to make it more energy efficient; creating a thriving community space that is self-sustaining, fit for purpose and open to everyone.

A ‘Volunteer Hall Working Party’ lead by Emma Yeomans, our forward thinking Parish Council Chair, has been formed and consists of Borough & Parish councillors, village residents, Community Forum members and others who have joined from our wider community. Together they are committed to driving this project forward. The team are busy formulating a plan for raising the funds to complete the project and working on what our ‘future proof village hall should look like.

Whilst the plans to improve our Sports Pavilion are still on our priority list, in the light of increasing construction costs, we are shifting our focus to the urgent works that need undertaking at the village hall. We will provide an update on the Pavilion at a later date.

The majority of the money will be raised through capital grant applications, using only a small pot of Parish Council money. Our Community Forum volunteers have also pledged their support for the refurbishment of the kitchen and are busy fundraising through the events and activities they organise within the village. We thank the whole community for supporting them by joining in these activities.

To track our Village Hall refurbishment progress, we will provide regular updates on this website page and through posts on the Shadoxhurst Parish Council  Facebook Page.

Thank you for taking the time to read this page, we appreciate your ongoing support.
