A fantastic selection of  interesting crafting activities for you to ‘Have A Go’

With the kind support of our talented Artists & Crafts People, classes and demonstrations are offered FREE, there may be a small contribution towards materials (between £1- £5) for some activities. There will be activities suitable for all ages and abilities as well as interesting demonstrations to view, refreshments, toilets and parking available.

There is no need to book and you don’t have to be artistic.. but to make the most of the event we recommend that you plan to arrive at 9.45am to take a look at the crafting activities available for you to ‘Have A Go’ and to sign up to the session timings that suit you. Many of the crafts will be rolling or repeated so you will be able to pace yourself and take part in all that you are interested in.

We will be welcoming the Mayor, Cllr Lyn Suddards and her husband at 12 noon to be part of our event.

Crafting Activities..

Wood block printing by Artist Emily Polyblank

Rolling Sessions – £1 materials cost.Emily is a fine art printmaker, carving into wood and Lino. Emily has exhibited at many venues and featured in the Royal Academy Summer Art Exhibition numerous times. As a resident of Shadoxhurst, Emily is joining our event where she will be demonstrating relief printing and you will be able to ‘Have A Go’ inking up the block and hand printing an image which, once dry, you will be able to keep.




Fused Glass by Kerry Collison
30 minute session – £5 materials cost:

Kerry is traditionally trained in stained glass and art foundry practices. In this interesting, fun workshop you will design your own small glass panel using pieces of coloured glass. Your panel will be fired overnight and available for you to collect from the next day.

Easy weaving skills by Jenny Ramsay Ecoventures – ECOcraft
30 minute session – £2 materials cost

At Ecoventures, Jenny’s workshops encourage you to explore outdoors, learn about looking after plants and animals and the environment and be creative using natural and sustainable materials.

Jenny runs ECokids at Green Farm Kent Community Garden on Thursday mornings, a popular and educational activity for preschool aged children situated in beautiful rural surroundings with a stunning kitchen garden, that coincides with Tea & Cake from the Pop Up Cafe.

Sewing & Knitting Skills by Shadoxhurst Sewing & Craft Club – FREE

Learn some sewing & knitting skills, gain advice & enjoy creative demonstrations. This is a rolling activity that takes place throughout our crafting day.

Club meetings are held regularly on the 1st, 3rd & 5th Thursday of each month at Shadoxhurst Village Hall from 7pm – 9pm. All are welcome. For more details please contact peter707r@hotmail.com


Childrens Crafting Table (suitable for all ages) – FREE

We will be running a crafting table, crammed full of interesting and fun activities for children of all ages. If you love drawing, colouring in, cutting & sticking do come and join us to create and take home what you make!


Learn about Cyanotype Printing by Paul & John
Rolling Sessions – FREE

Cyanotypes are one of the oldest photographic printing processes in the history of photography. The distinctive feature of the print is its shade of cyan blue, which results from its exposure to ultraviolet light. In this workshop you will find out how simple and easy it is to make your own decorative prints using everyday items and traditional processes, something you will want to have another go at home.

Poetry Writing Skills by David Ledger – 30 minute sessions – FREE
If you would like to try your hand at writing, join this inspiring workshop and write your own short poem.


Help us make a ‘Communal Bench’ for the Village Hall: In collaboration, Bob Cooper & Viktor Martz will be working on a bench at our crafting event to be positioned at the Village Hall to mark Shadoxhurst’s first ‘Midsummer Festival’, there will be an opportunity for you to watch and Have A Go.

Wood Turning by Bob Cooper
Rolling Sessions & Demonstrations – FREE

Woodturning is the craft of using a wood lathe with hand-held tools to cut a shape that is symmetrical around the axis of rotation. Like the potter’s wheel, the wood lathe is a mechanism that can generate a variety of forms. Join this workshop and learn the basics.

Wood Hewing by Viktor Martz – Timberology
Rolling Sessions & Demonstrations – FREE
In woodworking, hewing is the process of converting a log from its rounded natural form into lumber (timber) with more or less flat surfaces using primarily an axe.

Alcohol Ink Session by Wendy Willmore
30 minute session – £5 materials cost

Create a piece of art work you are proud of using alcohol inks. You will learn how to blend the colours and make marks in the ink to create a design you are proud of. Your work will be mounted to take home. Wendy is pursuing a full-time career in design and has recently launched Wendy Frances Designs where she takes inspiration from hidden gems in everyday life to create beautiful surface patterns, textile and mixed media pieces.

Flower Arrangements on display by Shadoxhurst Flower Club.

Shadoxhurst Flower Club meet on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm. A friendly and welcoming club that offer demonstrations, workshops and garden visits. Celebrating their 60th Year Anniversary next year!

Pyrography by Ron Batterbee – r.batterbee@btinternet.com
Rolling Demonstrations: Pyrography is the free handed art of decorating wood or other materials with burn marks resulting from the controlled application of a heated object such as a poker. It is also known as pokerwork or wood burning. The term means “writing with fire”, from the Greek pyr and graphos. Ron will be demonstrating his craft showing how intricate you can get.

It’s story time with author of Children’s Books, Penny Barron who will be visiting with Grumble Bear. You might also meet Grumble Bear on our Shadoxhurst Village Trail on Sunday 23rd June from 9am – 12 noon.

More Information..

Sandwiches, Home Made Cakes & Refreshments will be available to buy.  We will also be running a raffle throughout Saturday with some fabulous prizes to be won. The draw will be in the evening at the Kings Head. All proceeds will go towards the ‘Help Us Regenerate Our Village Hall’ Fund to help us install a wheelchair accessible toilet and upgrade our kitchen facilities.

From 12noon to 4pm there is a Fun Day (with Dog Show from 1pm) at the Kings Head, Shadoxhurst TN26 1LQ and in the evening the pub will be rocking with ‘Bandeoke’ by Mighty Real from 7pm where everyone can sing.
